A southern Sydney man on parole has been accused of choking, assaulting and threatening to kill a woman in incidents which were allegedly caught on camera, a court has heard.

Zane Alchin, 31, was charged with more than dozen offences over allegedly violent incidents involving a woman, which a court had heard happened some weeks ago.

Police have charged Alchin with eight counts of common assault, two counts of intentionally choking, two counts of stalking and intimidation, assault causing actual bodily harm, destroying or damaging property and threatening to kill.

The Caringbah man pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Alchin was initially denied bail on July 13 and made a second attempt after two days in custody at Parklea Jail in Sydney’s northwest.

Magistrate Hugh Donnelly at Sutherland Local Court heard Alchin was on parole when the alleged offences are said to have been committed against a female complainant.

“There is said to be a video of a 30 minute incident involving the charge in sequence four (property damage) and a recording, two minutes and 31 seconds, of the charge in sequence five (common assault),” police prosecutor Sgt Wade told the court.

“There’s a significant prosecution case.”

Alchin’s Legal Aid lawyer Ms Coorey made the renewed bail application on the basis she had obtained texts “going to the credibility of the witness” against Alchin.

However, Alchin’s efforts to be released on bail fell at the first hurdle as Mr Donnelly found there was no sufficient reason to review the prior bail decision made by Magistrate Philip Stewart on July 13.

Alchin – who repeatedly interrupted his own lawyer and the magistrate throughout the proceedings from his audiovisual link – will now remain in custody on remand.

His matter returns to Sutherland Local Court on September 27.
