A NSW police officer has been charged with assault, affray and making false representations resulting in police investigation, following extensive inquiries by police.
Wade Kevin Tabor, 38, of Jindabyne, did not appear with his legal representative Elizabeth Logan, acting on behalf of Hearn Legal, when the charges were mentioned for the first time at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday.
Tabor’s employment status is currently under review, according to a NSW Police statement issued in June.
The Jindabyne man has not entered pleas to any of the charges.
Police allege about 12.25am on January 30 the police officer – attached to a Southern Region Command – reported being assaulted at Cronulla while off-duty.
However following police inquiries, police have alleged the officer assaulted a man at Cronulla, and used unlawful violence such that a person of reasonable firmness present would fear for their personal safety.
Police allege the Jindabyne man knowingly made a false representation to a member of the police force about what had occurred – that he tried to break up a fight and was assaulted by two men.
The incident was investigated by the NSW Police Professional Standards Command.
Deputy registrar Marijana Popovic adjourned the matter to August 24 where it will return to the same court.
