Two charged over allegedly targeted attack on elderly couple at Carlton
Police allege an elderly couple were specifically targeted in a violent, late-night home invasion by masked intruders where they were bashed and were threatened with a gun. Two people have now been charged.

A jail inmate has been charged over an alleged targeted attack on an elderly couple who were bashed and threatened with a gun by masked intruders during a frightening home invasion in Sydney’s south.
The couple – an 81-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman – were woken by three people breaking into their Carlton home about 11pm on May 30 last year before the woman was restrained by one of the men while the man was assaulted and threatened with a firearm.
The trio fled with a small amount of cash, a safe and keys to the couple’s Audi RS4 sedan, which was found burnt out on Peyton St in Kogarah about 3am the following morning.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before he was taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.
The woman was not injured, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Crime scenes were established and forensically examined at both locations before Strike Force Kurrawan was taken over by robbery and serious crime squad detectives.
Following a 10-month investigation, detectives arrested a 31-year-old woman outside Parramatta Local Court on March 20.
She was subsequently charged with being an accessory after the fact to the special aggravated break and enter for her role in allegedly destroying the stolen Audi by fire.
The woman was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on May 1.
Strike Force Kurrawan detectives attended Silverwater jail on Wednesday morning and formally arrested a 28-year-old man.
He was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-weapon and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
The man was remanded in custody to appear in Sutherland Local Court on Thursday.
“Police will allege in court the robbery was a targeted attack,” police said in a statement.
Investigations under Strike Force Kurrawan continue.
