Tiana Kaleel: drug supply charges set for sentence

A Sydney childcare worker charged with serious drug offences by police after they saw her go through a roundabout without using her blinker has entered a plea.

A Sydney childcare worker caught with almost half a kilogram of ice in a plastic bag after she failed to use a blinker through a roundabout has admitted to supplying drugs.

Tiana Kaleel, 26, was charged with supplying a commercial quantity of ice and a back-up charge of possessing ice after police pulled her car over in Burwood Heights on June 16 last year.

She has now pleaded guilty to commercial drug supply and is set to be sentenced at Sydney District Court on July 4.

At the time, the cleanskin childcare worker from Brighton-Le-Sands allegedly told police she was dropping a laser to her cousin and doing a Maccas run after officers allegedly observed her leaving a suspected drug house in Greenacre.

Police pulled her over in Burwood Heights when she failed to indicate through a roundabout and found a Woolies bag full of 490g of ice – only 10g less than the large commercial amount – in her car.

“The accused said ‘what’s going to happen now? Am I going to jail?” police alleged in court documents at the time.

Police documents allege the bag contained eight individual plastic bags, one with 287g of ice and seven each containing 29g.

The bag also allegedly contained a Samsung mobile phone with no SIM card, a set of house keys, a pair of rubber gloves, an Apple iPhone and a Vodafone sim and Wi-Fi pack.

Kaleel spent a week and a half in prison on remand following her arrest before her solicitor Ahmed Dib successfully applied for her bail at Burwood Local Court.

She has been on bail ever since after her family put up a $900,000 surety for her release.
