A 16-year-old boy has been charged after a teenage girl tragically died in a fatal boat crash in Sydney’s south on Australia Day.
In a statement, NSW Police said emergency services were called to Swallow Rock at Grays Point in the Sutherland Shire following reports an Anglapro runabout and a Quintrex Dart runabout had collided.
Both are small aluminium vessels, or tinnies.
“A 16-year-old girl was ejected from the Quintrex Dart runabout and pulled from the water,” the NSW Police statement read.
“She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St George Hospital, where she died.”
The two 16-year-old boys operating the runabouts were also taken to St George Hospital for mandatory testing.
“Following extensive inquiries, the 16-year-old boy operating the Anglapro runabout was issued a court attendance notice for operate recreational vessel negligently causing death,” the statement read.
The boy is due to appear at a children’s court on June 20.
Officers attached to Marine Area Command established Strike Force Turnbridge to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
