A Menai bus driver who allegedly allowed a teenager to operate his bus while members of the public were on board has had his matter heard in court for the first time.
Police will allege Adam Stevens, 25, allowed a 16-year-old boy to operate a bus on multiple occasions between March 10 and 27 in the Kingsgrove area.
There was a brief mention of Stevens’ case in Sutherland Local Court on Thursday where his lawyer sought an adjournment of two weeks.
A police prosecutor indicated charges against Stevens would be withdrawn and replaced with new ones during a future court appearance.
In documents tendered to court police allege Stevens allowed the boy to drive the bus on March 10 between 2.30pm and 7pm and again between 5.24pm and 8.15pm on March 17.
The boy also allegedly drove the bus on March 22 between 3.40pm and 7.40pm and then between 12.08pm on March 27 and 1.17am on March 28.
Police began investigating the alleged incidents after receiving reports from the public.
Officers arrested Stevens at his Menai home on March 30 before he was taken to Sutherland Police Station and charged with three counts of negligently moving/driving a vehicle subjecting people to risk and three counts of employ etc unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR, MR.
Further charges have since been laid against Stevens which included four counts of employing a never licenced driver related to the same dates.
Stevens now faces 11 charges. He is yet to enter pleas to any of the counts.
The matter will return to court on May 10 and Stevens remains on conditional bail.
