An alleged meth dealing mum – accused of supplying drugs on more than 270 occasions – has avoided returning to prison on remand after failing a drug test.

Kyia English, 37, appeared in Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday where an application was made for her Supreme Court bail to be revoked after she tested positive to methylamphetamine on Friday.

The Penshurst woman has been charged with a number of charges, including ongoing drug supply, dealing with criminal proceeds and running a drug premises, following a police strike force investigation launched in May last year. No pleas have been entered.

The court has previously heard English was allegedly recorded on telephone intercepts organising and selling varying quantities of meth and GBH to customers, with common code words such as dot, point, half ball and ball used.

English’s lawyer John Styles told the court on Tuesday his client, who was supported in court by her son and cousin, was undergoing treatment for drug and alcohol and had been compliant with her strict bail conditions, outside of the failed drug test.

“She’s just whispered in my ear [that] she is happy for the police to come and test her everyday,” he said.

The court heard the community would be better served if English was to “remain at liberty”.

When asked by Magistrate Jillian Kiely why his client was using ice, Mr Styles said it was because she had been struggling mentally.

“It’s another one of these situations where it’s a battle your honour,” he said. “She’s not willingly going to use these drugs or wanting to use these drugs … she is trying to get this help,” he said.

Ms Kiely, in rejecting the detention application, told English she was a “hair’s breadth away from going back into the dock”.

“If you come back before me with ice in your system you won’t be going back through that door,” she told English. “[This is] a warning … don’t use drugs.”

The proceedings were adjourned with English to appear before Downing Centre Local Court next week.
