The trusted right-hand man to federal MP Craig Kelly is now set to defend several sexual touching and indecent assault charges at a court hearing in the wake of the upcoming federal election.
Frank Zumbo, 54, was charged in June 2021 after a lengthy investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against four women aged 27, 26, 23 and 16 between 2014 and 2020.
Zumbo – who denies the allegations – is a close adviser to Mr Kelly and is the longstanding chief of staff at the MP’s Hughes electorate office in Sutherland.
Police launched an investigation in 2020 after the 16-year-old girl raised allegations about Zumbo’s conduct, which resulted in three other women coming forward.
Zumbo has pleaded not guilty to 18 offences – nine counts of common assault, two counts of aggravated sexual touching, and seven counts of aggravated indecent assault.
At Downing Centre Local Court on May 9, Magistrate Susan McIntyre confirmed both the prosecution and Zumbo’s solicitor Michael Moussa were ready to proceed with a 10-day special fixture hearing at the same court on June 14.
The matter was adjourned to that date.
