Connor Lind: sexual assault charges heard in court

The case of a clean-cut rugby player and male cheerleader has been back before the courts, with fresh alleged details heard about his sex assault case.

Surge in sexual assault reporting as public discussion around rape increases

A clean-cut Sydney rugby player and male cheerleader who allegedly had sex with two underage girls in five months is bound for the District Court on serious criminal charges, a court has heard.

Detectives descended on Connor Lind, 20, at his Kirrawee home on August 10 after a three-month investigation into claims he allegedly sexually assaulted two girls.

Police now allege Lind sexually assaulted two girls – then aged 14 and 15 – on numerous occasions at an Allambie Heights home between December 2020 and May 2021.

He was then charged with four counts of having sexual intercourse with a child and one count of intentionally sexually touching a child and was granted bail by Magistrate Philip Stewart at Sutherland Local Court.

New details in the alleged case against Lind have now emerged from papers tendered to Hornsby Local Court on September 1.

Police will allege Lind had sex with a 14-year-old girl three times – in December 2020, March 2021 and May 2021.

They also allege he touched the girl’s genitalia in January, constituting the alleged indecent assault.

Police further allege Lind had sex with a 15-year-old girl in April.

Neither Lind nor his solicitor were required to appear for his second court appearance at Hornsby Local Court, where the matter was adjourned to September 29 for brief orders.

Lind is yet to enter a plea to the five charges but a NSW Police prosecutor told Magistrate Robyn Denes the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions would elect to take carriage of the matter – meaning it is likely bound for the District Court.

Lind’s parents put up a $20,000 surety for his release on bail in August and he is required to report to Sutherland police every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

He is forbidden to enter the northern beaches suburbs of Allambie Heights and Frenchs Forest – where he is from and his family still lives – while he remains on bail.

Lind is a graduate of the prestigious St Augustine’s College in Brookvale, where he played in the school’s 2nd XV rugby union team.

He currently plays Rugby Sevens with Phoenix Sporting Academy, a rugby development and training program on Sydney’s north shore.

Lind was also a cheerleader with Aussie Gems Cheer, an elite USA-style competitive cheerleading club on the northern beaches.
