There are now grave fears for missing Camperdown man Christopher Deep, almost a week after he reportedly vanished in Sydney’s Royal National Park without a trace.
Mr Deep’s sister Louise Deep said the family are distraught that the Royal Prince Alfred radiographer has still not been found, but said her brother “loves the outdoors” and is a handy rock climber.
She urged anyone who might have potentially passed Christopher last week on the trails to come forward.
“We’re worried he might be injured, he might be lost in the park,” she said.
“The thing is he’s a really outdoorsy person, he’s very capable in the outdoors but to have gone this long without trying to contact us and without being found is very concerning.
“There’s still hope he’s okay.”
Mr Deep, 36, was reported missing last Friday though the last confirmed sighting of him is CCTV vision from Loftus train station on Tuesday February 23.
In the image, Chris can be seen with his road bike and donning shades about 12.25pm.
Police are pursuing a strong possibility Christopher’s disappearance could be misadventure as opposed to foul play, given he was last seen on his bike with a helmet on and in his cycling lycras.
Christopher and his sister Louise both moved to Sydney after growing up in Coonabarabran, where their parents still call home.
Ms Deep said Chris could have been cycling to the beach on his trip to the national park.
“He might have decided to have gone for a swim,” she said,
“He just wouldn’t do this on his own.
“He’s got such a great group of friends, we just we can’t work out why.”
The police rescue squad, PolAir and the State Emergency Services as well as concerned friends and volunteers have been canvassing the national park for two days in the hopes of finding Christopher.
Many spent the better part of the weekend combing through the bushland in an exhaustive search.
On Monday police continued their efforts with a ground search, though there has yet to be any trace of Chris in the sprawling natural haven.
Thousands of people have shared posts hoping someone down in the Sydney’s south might recognise something about Christopher, potentially on their hikes through Royal National Park last week.
Police still believe Chris may have gone for a trail ride in the bush at Royal National Park despite him last being seen with a road bike.
Anyone who may know anything is urged to contact police.
