A newly announced Beauty and the Geek contestant who was convicted of drink driving at more than three times the legal limit has expressed her remorse in a public statement.

Emily McCarthy, 25, was charged with high range drink driving on November 7 last year after she blew a whopping 0.168 in a roadside breath test.

The Cronulla flight attendant who has travelled to 56 countries revealed she had been cast as a beauty in the popular Nine Network reality TV show hosted by Sophie Monk just last Thursday.

Agreed police facts tendered to Sutherland Local Court reveal officers in a marked police car were behind McCarthy on President Ave in Miranda when she suddenly turned left onto Wandella Rd.

A stationary police car with flashing red and blue lights was visible slightly further up President Ave at the time.

As McCarthy drove towards the Kingsway, the marked police car pulled her over.

“The accused stated she had recently finished an alcoholic beverage at the Gymea Hotel 20 minutes prior to being stopped by police,” police state.

A roadside breath test initially returned a result of 0.210 – more than four times the legal limit.

McCarthy was then arrested and taken to Kogarah police station for a breath analysis, which returned a result of 0.168 at 2.03am – more than an hour after she was initially pulled over.

She was then charged with high range drink driving and her licence was suspended on the spot.

At Sutherland Local Court on January 13, McCarthy pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted and fined $500 by Magistrate Philip Stewart.

She was also disqualified from driving for six months from the date she was suspended, and will be subject to an interlock licence for two years during which her car will not start unless she blows a zero blood alcohol limit.

After the St George Shire Standard learned of McCarthy’s criminal proceedings, she issued a statement through a Nine publicist.

“I deeply regret my decision and take full responsibility for my actions,” McCarthy said.

“I accepted the court outcome and this has been a huge learning for me and something I will never do again.”

Nine declined to comment further on the court proceedings.

In a profile on the show’s website, McCarthy says she is the loudest person at every party and her favourite thing to do is “tanning, tanning and fake tanning”.

She also said she would like to show her vulnerable side on the show.

“I want to talk more about my feelings, rather than always keeping things lighthearted,” she says.

“I want to find someone who can treat me the way I deserve to be treated. I’m looking for love, but if I get great friends out of it, then that’s amazing.”

McCarthy also said she was passionate about health, fitness, and cooking.
