The Waratahs know from experience nothing fires up their Queensland opposites more than a big loss.

After walloping the Queensland Reds 38-10 in their first meeting this season, the Tahs under 18s are bracing for a heavy dose of retaliation rugby at Forshaw Park next Tuesday.

“Last year we beat them in the first and they came out and beat us in Canberra in the next one so lessons have been learned,’’ coach Mike Snowden said.

“They had barely played when we met them the first time so they will be a mile better than they were.’’

Adding to the danger is the return of one of the sports brightest young prospects in Junior Wallaby front rower Trevor King.

The young talent, who recently signed on with the Reds senior squad, is available for selection ahead of Tuesday’s matches between the two top rugby Academies.

“It will be interesting to see how they have changed,’’ Snowden said.

“They have a handy prop, Trevor King, back from the under 20s who didn't play in the first game.

“But he will make a big difference.

“He did a number on us in Canberra last year. They demolished us in scrum time in that event.’’

In a titi-for-tat, the Waratahs will also benefit form the return of a top player for their clash in Sydney’s south.

“We have Leo Jacques available which is great,’’ Snowden said.

“He got knocked out before the last game and was unavailable due to the concussion rule.

“He’s one of our stars. He looks fantastic and he’s athletically gifted.

“He reminds me of a prized racehorse. You watch people run and he runs the way you are supposed it.’’
