Practice is paving the way for success for Sydney Hills Gymnastics young gun Tom Zurcher.
The 10-year-old is having a standout season and it might have something to do with his dedication to the cause.
And while he loves competing, Tom, from Castle Hill, is a little different from other athletes in that he also loves training.
“I do a lot of training,” said the young gymnast. “I do 22 hours a week. I train five times a week.
“Sometimes I get a little tired but I love it.”

His work ethic is paying off with Tom recently posting some top results at big events.
At the Acrobatic Gymnastics & Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Senior Trials 1 in February he finished first overall in the Level 7 Under 13 division.
At the same event Lucas Engesser came first overall in the Level 7 Open division and Daniel Chalabov 1st overall in the Level 8, Under 14 division.
In the second trials event he finished third overall in an encouraging sign ahead of his next big tournament in April.
“I’ve been doing gymnastics since I was about four because my brother started and I kind of liked it,” he said.
“I like how you could do cool skills and I like the tricks.”
The newly created trio of Isabella Johansen of Cherrybrook, Elisha Rodger of Kellyville and Mekenna Vickers of Castle Hill have also been turning heads.
At their last meet they finished third to show how their commitment is paying dividends.
“I’m extremely proud of the commitment and hard work these girls have shown. The trio worked tirelessly and showed incredible support and compassion for each other,” said Acrobatics program co-ordinator and coach Jael Vazquez.
