MAMRE Anglican School is booting the competition out of the park, one by one.
Neither the school’s girls’ or boys’ football sides lost a game in the Western Sydney Wanderers Schools Cup last month — with no school able to score a single goal against the girls’ team.
Now in its second year, the Wanderers Cup sees schools from across the region compete in a series of gala days to earn the title of the best in the west.
Both Mamre Anglican School teams have been nominated for Newslocal’s Team Spirit award, not only for their efforts but their attitude as well.
School football coach Jason Trifiro said he was proud of both teams.
“The two teams were selected here at school and they played last month — they both did quite well and have made it to the final stage to be played in a few weeks,” he said.
The boys’ team won three of its four games, drawing with Winmalee High School, while the girls won all four games, beating one team 9-0.
Trifiro said the teams were excellent both on and off the field.
“I don’t know what we can expect from the next stage but I think they will do well. They train three days a week and — they are all good kids.
“We preach to them to play fair – win lose or draw, you act the same way,” he said.
Newslocal’s Team Spirit award is sponsored by Fox Sports Pulse.
