SJRU grand final: Randwick Warriors clubmates, Wallabies greats in junior rugby battle

It had all the ingredients to be one of the standout games of the Sydney Junior Rugby Union grand finals on Sunday and it didn’t disappoint.
Teen guns from the same club - including cousins - vying for one trophy and coached by a pair of brothers-in-law who both played for the Wallabies.
In the end the U17/18 battle between two teams from the Randwick Warriors club was won by the younger side coached by former Wallaby Owen Finegan, who had his son Ben playing against the Warwick Waugh coached team which included his cousin Xavier.
“You always grow a leg when you are playing older boys and that’s what happened,’’ said Finegan of his teams 22-5 victory at Coogee.

“It was four tries to one and a good game.
“We had 12 or 13 blokes who could have got man of the match. It was a real team effort.’’
Noah Tofaeono, Ryan Hescott, Max Tanner and Jonas Dowling all scored tries in the big victory.
The Randwick Warriors is a teenage club which brings together players from nearby junior clubs and is for players 13 and up.
In another success for the club their 16s team won the grand final against Norwest at Melwood Oval on Sunday.
This team are the state champions and boast a number of Gen Blues squad members.
