She’s used to having her own game dissected by expert commentators. Now rugby star Shannon Parry is the one doing the talking.
The former Wallaroos captain and Rugby Sevens gun has been bought on to commentate a number of matches in the 2020 Shute Shield when she’s not playing herself in the Jack Scott Cup for Randwick.
And there are plenty of her close contacts around the Shute Shield grounds with Australian men’s sevens players now spotted throughout the competition due to the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

BIG CHOICE: Why young Pirates star chose rugby over AFL
Men’s seven stars Maurice Longbottom and Dylan Pietsch last weekend both scored two tries for Randwick to be among the competitions top try scorers.
Other sevens players playing include Henry Hutchinson and Lachie Miller, also at the Galloping Greens, Will Maddox at Easts, Trae Williams at Southern Districts and Rod Davies at West Harbour.
“I did the Manly v Norths game a couple of weeks ago. I’m just dabbling in the commentary when the opportunity comes up,’’ said Parry, who did a course earlier this year with other athletes.
“I’m doing it when I can fit it into the weekend.
“I like the commentary. It’s something I am interested in. It’s very different from playing, a new experience, very challenging. I’m keen to learn a bit more.’’

With so little sport on this winter due to coronavirus concerns and mass competition cancellations, there is renewed interest in the Shute Shield.
The competition runs over 13 rounds before semi-finals, an elimination final and then the season decider in October.
A match each week is being broadcast throughout NSW on 7TWO.
This Saturday Gordon face Warringah at Chatswood Oval in the round four match of the round at 3pm.
The game is live and free on 7TWO in NSW.
