Meet Sydney’s most in-form park cricketer.
Chris Kok, a 36-year-old corporate lawyer who opens the batting for St Ives Wahroonga Cricket Club is the number one run scorer across all of Sydney’s local cricket competitions.
The passionate cricketer, who moved to Australia from South Africa five years ago, has been immense at the crease this summer compiling 456 runs across eight innings in the Hornsby,
Ku-ring-gai and Hills’ D-Grade competition at an average of 65.
Kok said when his cricket team’s group chat pinged with a message about him being Sydney’s leading scorer in park cricket, he first thought he was being stitched up.
“I knew I was making lots of runs but I didn’t think the most across Sydney,” he said. “Long may it continue.”
The 36-year-old said he was no stranger to a big score with the bat but had never enjoyed such a stretch of form, modestly highlighting there had been a “bit of luck”.
Kok is hoping he can contribute to his team making the finals for the first time in recent years to help St Ives Wahroonga Cricket Club celebrate its centenary.
