Port Macquarie will once again play host to some of the best touch footy players in the country at the NSW State Cup. We take a look at 130+ players set to make their mark on the touch showcase.

The NSW Touch Football State Cup is Australia’s most prestigious state touch football tournament.

It pits the best up and coming talents alongside established stars and the veterans of the sport across an action-packed three days in Port Macquarie.

We take a look at the 130+ players who are set to shine for their regions this weekend.

Nelson has matured into an exceptional ballplayer and communicator. A key middle in the team, he will make his mark and take his game to the next level in Port.

Lucy may be diminutive in size but she will take many by surprise. Possesses blistering speed, excellent hands, long-ball ability and a feisty attitude that makes her a huge threat to any defence. She will back herself against male defenders, using her pace and guile to upset defensive structures.

A recent World Cup representative, Joseph has the skills to turn a game in an instant. An exceptional touch brain backed by an ankle snapping step, a lethal long ball and the drive and energy that players years younger would die for. A leader on and off the field.

The ability of Tyrell to weave through defenders with his exceptional footwork and slick skills makes him a dangerous player with ball in hand.

A quality play maker who can make things happen with his effective passing game both ways and he’s also a very tactical operator on field.

A fast and agile player who will leave defenders guessing with his footworks. A very dangerous player in attack.

Her win/loss record is phenomenal. From park touch to Australian representative level, Carly has been one of the Roosters most successful players. A four-time World Cup representative who has scored over 50 tries. Also named in NSW touch Golden Jubilee Indigenous Team of Year. She reads the game, is a brick wall in defence and has the safest hands in the comp.

A greenskeeper by trade and a champion by nature, he claimed the 2022/2023 NSW State Men’s Singles title and recent 2024 Oceania Title, cementing his place among the sport’s elite. The co-captain of the team and is blessed with an all-round natural skill set for touch footy. Great ball skills, very decisive on his feet and works very hard through his competitive nature. Can change a game in one play.

Co-caption of the team, is very vocal and bringing lots of energy. He is an instinctive player who possesses a natural talent with the ball in hand that creates opportunities for the players around him.

Remarkable speed that can put teams on the back foot, while also surprising opponents with his agility can create scoring opportunities out of nowhere. That makes him a danger from anywhere on the field.

Also a 2024 National Youth Championships title winner. Along with his teammates had an outstanding tournament with the CIS Opens team, again only is only 16 and proving to be a classy link/wing. Tall, fast and fit, a great defender and attacker, Jake works off the ball well giving the middle players options but even better with ball in hand at finishing.

Middle

Along with his teammates has won numerous junior titles - from Junior State Cups to National Youth Championships. Saxon creates headaches for all opponents when he has the ball, an instinctive attacking player, bringing some flair into their game and creating something from nothing.

MENS 30s

Curtis Solomon

A Kiwi export who is known as Cuzzy, brings a step to rival Benji Marshall’s. He has oodles of attacking flair and is a weapon on the sweep plays, using his footwork to bamboozle the opposition.

Recently appointed as refs coordinator, Jason has been increasing his already noteworthy understanding of the game. This is reflected in the knowledge and prowess that he brings to the team. Always energetic, he takes advantage of any opportunity that presents.

The former Dragons star and premiership winner brings his skills to the touch field for Wagga, with his speed and passing set to be on show.

Aaron is a true finisher, with excellent pace and try scoring ability. He has topped the try scoring lists for Brindies and ACT Raiders in the past. He is a strong defender with great fitness, often playing throughout a tournament without substituting.

A NSW Touch Hall of Fame player. The legend is an incredibly smart type who can read the game better than most.

Max’s foot speed over eight meters is incredibly dynamic and his change of direction at speed creates major issues for his opposing defender. At 19 years of age, Max has a very bright future ahead of him.

The co-captain and freak is one term used to describe Alex. Defensively he is up there with the best wing defenders in the world and he saves tries he has no right to. His foot speed over the length of the field is in the 10 top players in NSW.

Will lead the attack for the Hawks with his control and experience. Brad has been named captain of the team and is a Hawk through and through. He has won numerous junior and senior titles during his career.

Similar to older brother Junior, at the young age of 19 JP has already represented Australia and NSW in the 18s and 20s divisions and more recently led Lebanon to a bronze medal at the touch football World Cup. JP’s attacking arsenal - from his footwork, speed and passing ability makes him a player to watch at this year’s tournament and a future star of the sport.

A NSW 20s and Australian 18s representative as well as a bronze medal winner for Lebanon in the recent World Cup, Junior Catalano has been an integral part of the make-up of the Wests Premier league side over the last few years. With the ability to play both sides of the field, Wests will be looking for a high involvement from Junior during this year’s State Cup if they are wanting to progress deep into the final series.

Middle

The potential point of difference for the Wests mens Premier League side with his speed, agility and footwork. Emmanuel’s progression in touch football over the last 12 months has seen him win an NTLs tournament with the Sydney Mets 20s side and also earn his spot in the NSW emerging blues program. Look for Emmanuel to provide Wests with another attacking option.

Middle

With years of Men’s Premier League experience Matt will have a leading role in the Mens Open B division team at this year’s State Cup. He’s skilful and knowledgeable in every facet of the game a player who prides himself on defence and will lead this team from the front.

Coming off successful campaigns at the Touch World Cup with Italy and Mixed Open with Easts Roosters, Harrison will look to use his experience to propel this team in the Mens Open division. His speed, agility and leadership will be what takes his team into Sunday’s finals.

Having impressed in the junior programs at Easts Roosters and Southern Rebels, Riley has earned his debut in the Mens Opens division, injecting speed and youth into the team

Switching codes from union, Will brings footwork and finesse from his days as a fly-half. Making his representative debut, he has quickly become a stand-out player in this new-look Easts Roosters side, proving himself as a dynamic and invaluable asset to this team.

Returning from a shoulder reconstruction earlier this year, Coco is an exciting young player to watch, being one of the veterans of the team. She is a great ballplayer and was last year named player of the final in Many’s U20s State Cup win.

Chloe has a great long ball and great pace. She has been known to run the length of the field to dive and score as well as chase down a breakaway opponent.

Scarlett brings a tonne of speed and finishing ability to the team. The smiling assassin is rarely caught if given some space. Always in great position whether in attack or defence and highly regarded by teammates.

The captain of the side, Ainsley sets a strong example with her impressive work ethic in defence and poses a significant threat in attack, particularly when diving near the tryline.

In a young side, Charlotte is one of the more experienced players on the team and shows great leadership. She is remarkably fit and strong, using her athleticism to work tirelessly in both attack and defence. She has exceptional speed off the mark and also possesses an excellent long ball.

The raw potential that Andi has is starting to blossom. Her pace and brilliant footwork are now starting to be matched with a great understanding of the game with Andi having her best year yet. The young gun who’s ready to rip in. She’s in the NSW U20s Emerging Blues Team and has been a real rising star this past 12 months. Tynise is one of the best in the game at playing eyes up footy and relinquishes every opportunity thrown at her.

She’s the no nonsense Roosters captain who is tough as teak but loved by those that know her and respected by those that oppose her. She’s the Div 1 North Star, setting the expectations, standards and energy levels for the other girls to follow. A quickie specialist, she will make the opposition pay if they are not on their toes. When the chips are down, coaches Mark Heiss and Chloe Smith look to their inspirational captain.

It’s not so much Jess Henville’s speed, it’s the way she glides across the ground. Jess has been a revelation moving into the women’s division, saving as many tries as she’s scored and is the silent assassin in the division one side. She’s equally at home at wing, link or middle. Dangerous in attack and almost a wall in defence.

Relentlessly looking for improvement, Lexi is a wingers’ winger, who is on par with the comms and finishing of the best wingers in the women’s division. Her calm and reflective demeanour holds her in good stead when defending repeat sets or looking for a chink in the defence. She might look like she’s relaxed, but she’s the one who knows how to get the job done.
