Think your local cricket team has what it takes to be crowned the best in the state?

Well, thanks to a breakthrough initiative by Cricket NSW, now you can find out.

In the first of its kind, senior cricket clubs from across NSW have been invited to compete in next month’s T20 knockout competition.

Excluding the top dogs of NSW Premier Cricket, affiliated clubs with players aged 16 and over can nominate teams to compete for the inaugural NSW Community Cricket Cup.

From grass wickets heroes to the kingpins of astro-turf, the race is on to find four semi-finalists to vie for the title at Cricket Central during a finals day at the end of the season.

With entries open until Monday, November 20, Community Cricket Experience General Manager Martin Gleeson is already counting down the days until the opening round on December 3.

“The NSW Community Cricket Cup is a forward-looking competition that will bring the excitement of T20 cricket to our communities,” said Gleeson.

“With its sharp knockout format, the Cup will generate a buzz at this level of the game. Clubs are parochial at all levels, and this competition provides an opportunity for players to test themselves outside of the norm and chase the crown as the best in the state.”

From Sydney to the state’s sports-hungry regions, the all encompassing event will take place fortnightly throughout the summer and bring just as much joy off the pitch.

“We hope to have as many interested cricket clubs in NSW take part,” Gleeson said of the competition aligned to the format used in English football’s FA Cup.

“The journey of playing in a cup competition brings excitement and heartbreak as clubs compete against others that they don't traditionally play.

“Local communities will be able to follow their club’s journey. And throughout the coverage of the competition, Cricket NSW will use the Cup as a platform to share news, stories and origins of local clubs and their players, volunteers and administrators.”

Depending on the home side, games will be played on either turf or synthetic wickets and played under conditions replicating those used in the BBL, including fielding restrictions, power plays and the power surge.

With official umpires sourced from local umpiring associations and custom made pink balls, this comp has all the bells and whistles.
