The fantasy sports world has exploded in recent times with wannabe coaches picking sporting superstars like the NRL’s Tom Trbojevic, AFL’s Dusty Martin and BBL’s Marcus Stoinis in their online teams.
Now park cricketers, bush footy players and amateur athletes can be the stars of the league with a unique fantasy sports platform targeting grassroots competitions across the country.
Designed by Melbourne club cricketer Vicky Goyal, with his wife Aditi, ‘MyClubtap’ is a fast-growing fantasy sports platform specifically targeted for community sport.
Since its inception about eight years ago more than 150 clubs, including Sydney Grade Cricket club Easts Dolphins, and 5000 people have taken part in fantasy leagues across the country.
Mr Goyal said the platform brings sporting communities closer together by connecting current and former players, supporters, sponsors, family and friends through the fantasy competition.
“”It’s not about the Steve Smiths, or Virat Kohlis, or Ricky Pontings – it’s about people who know each other,” he said. “It’s something very personal.”
“In the last couple of years the whole platform has come alive and we have done a significant amount of investment in terms of building the platform,” he said.
“I never thought it would go as far as where it is starting to go now. It’s been clear that clubs want to use something like MyClubtap.”
The platform has typically hosted competitions featuring players from a single club with fantasy coaches able to select players competing in different divisions or grades.
This year the platform has launched leagues featuring all players participating in Premier Cricket competitions in NSW, Victoria and Western Australia, as well as the ability to host leagues in seven different sports including hockey, netball and rugby union.
Mr Goyal said the ultimate vision of MyClubtap is to be the “home of fantasy sports for grassroots sport”.
