She had a plan and Central Coast surfer Molly Picklum stuck to it to make a victorious start at the WSL world junior surfing championships in Taiwan on Wednesday.
The teenage surf star said she was delighted to win her opening heat and surprisingly felt calm and collect as she coasted through her first ever junior world surfing appearance.
“I just had to make sure I got out there and got the job done,’’ said Picklum from the event at Jinzun Harbour.
“It was great to get the win.
“I wasn’t nervous though. We had a plan to just go out and have fun and it worked really well.’’
Picklum scored a 6.83 and 5.33 rids for a total of 12.16 to beat Japanese surfer Shino Matsuda (11.33) and northern beaches surfer Bodhi Leigh-Jones (8.17).
