MATILDAS star Kyah Simon kicked off her fledging coaching career with an all-girls clinic at Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood, over the weekend.
The 24-year-old striker, who starred in the recent Matildas successful campaign to qualify for the Rio Olympics, began her career with Quakers Hill Junior Soccer Club.
The two-day clinic was aimed at the 10-18 age group.
“I really couldn’t be happier with how my first clinic for girls went off,” the former Rouse Hill Times Junior Sports Star said.
“I never had these all-girls clinics when I was their age and this is one way I can give back something to the girls who support us.
“It was a really good clinic and all the girls enjoyed themselves while learning new skills, and I was pleased with how it all went.
“My mission is to create a fun-filled football environment, where the girls can learn new skills and develop in areas they didn’t think possible.”
Simon only returned with the all-conquering Matildas team on Friday and was among the Matildas feted by prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at the Sydney Tower on Monday.
“I am pretty exhausted but still pumped up by adrenaline,” Simon said.
“Hopefully I will have a few days rest before I join the Boston Breakers in time for the US national women’s league,” Simon said.
“I plan to catch up with the Matildas squad around three weeks before the Rio Olympics (in August).
“I would like to hold another clinic after I return to Australia in October.”
Simon played with Quakers Hill for around three years from 1999. The club honours its first Australian representative by presenting the top player each year with the Kyah Simon Golden Boot award.
“Since I was eight, football has been a major part of my life and brought me so much joy, many wonderful experiences and many lifelong friends,” Simon said.
“I am passionate about football and determined in helping our future generations be the best footballers they can be.
“I hope to inspire the girls through sharing my experiences throughout my professional career, how I got to where I am today and have them leaving with a new sense of belief within themselves, empowered and motivated to chase their dreams.”
