A knockout week for banned NRL star Curtis Scott is set to get even bigger.

Following a stunning pro boxing debut on Wednesday night where the Storm premiership winner floored Joey Leilua with a second round knockout, Scott has courageously put his hand up to play a game of footy.

A key member of Thirlmere’s premiership side in 2023, the largely unscathed centre has opted to back up on Sunday as the Roosters kick-off their Macarthur title defence at home against East Campbelltown.

Scott joins fellow NRL discard Tim Simona in an outfit missing 11 stars from the side that defeated Camden in an epic grand final last September.

For Thirlmere coach Darren McLeod, the centre’s return is “music to my ears” and shows a mutual respect that goes back to the start of last season.

“We know boxing is now Curtis’ priority,” said McLeod.

“But it’s a credit to him that he’s recognised we’re a bit short. With the enormity of the week he’s had, to come and help us out just several days after a major bout takes character.”

While he dominated on the canvas, the normally media shy Scott has had a busy week in the spotlight, trading barbs with Leilua as the former league adversaries promoted the heavyweight bout.

“He could have easily taken time to recover, but he’s a top bloke and as a club we couldn’t speak more highly of him,” said McLeod, who was at the helm when the club agreed to sign the former NSW Origin candidate when the NRL wouldn’t.

Asked about the 26-year-old’s long term availability, McLeod was unsure.

“There’s talk about a potential heavyweight fight with former Swans forward Barry Hall,” said McLeod.

“Once a date is finalised, I’m guessing that’ll be the focus. But right now, we are just grateful for the dedication and loyalty he’s showing to the football club.”
