The Hunter Hurricanes are chasing their first win of the AWL.

The latest round of the Australian Water Polo League finished off with games between UTS Balmain Tigers v Sydney Uni Lions in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

The inclement weather in Sydney forced a late change in venue for the Tigers and Lions showdowns with matches played out of Ashfield Aquatic Centre from Sunday morning.

Tokyo Olympian Keesja Gofers said pride was on the line in Sunday’s live stream matches.

The 31-year-old from the Sydney Uni Lions and her teammates will take on the UTS Balmain Tigers on Sunday.

The Tigers are in second place overall on the AWL ladder behind Queensland Thunder with the Sydney Uni Lions in third place.

Water polo player Keesja Gofers is expecting a great game on Sunday.

Going into the weekend, Thunder were undefeated with six wins, the Tigers had seven wins, a draw and a loss and the Lions five wins, a draw and a loss.

In the men’s competition, the AWL is being led by Queensland Thunder with six straight wins with the Sydney Uni Lions in fourth place with four wins and three losses and UTS Balmain Tigers in six place with four wins and five losses.

Gofers, who has scored 20 goals in the competition this season, said she is expecting a great tussle on Sunday.

“It’s very important we win. We have had some really solid quarters but we are looking forward to putting for following solid quarters together,” she said.

“Balmain are above us on the ladder as well and it would be nice to jump them.

“We lost to them in the first game of the KAP7 Cup.

“We were finding our feet in the game and the group has come together and we have much better connections now so I think this will be a much are really good match up.”
