With the AFLW Draft fast approaching, a Sydney talent has rocketed up the prospect rankings following an incredible showing at the Draft Combine.
17-year-old Amelie Prosser-Shaw showcased her athletic prowess by finishing top 10 in every category, including top fives in the standing vertical jump and 20m sprint.
She was one of just two potential draftees to achieve the top 10 feat and said it was the result of a sustained push to get herself in the best possible position for December.
“To be able to finish in the top 10 for everything, I’m proud of that,” she said.
“I’ve put a lot of hard work and dedication into myself and my fitness to be able to put my best foot forward.
“You never know what can happen on draft night, but the results give me confidence in my capabilities as a player.”
Those capabilities have been on show throughout a stellar 2024 season that has seen Prosser-Shaw win the AFL Sydney Premier Division with the East Coast Eagles as well as stints with the Allies, Giants Academy and the All Stars.
She said she has embraced the challenge of being a part of different teams and under new coaches.
“Playing across different teams has put me in good stead to adapt to different coaches and personalities,” she said.
“You get to talk to people, get their opinions and take in their knowledge. It’s been so supportive for me.
“To play under Tanya Hetherington and all the knowledge she has from playing, it was great to be in a team like that.
“Georgia Walker has been great at supporting us through the Coates League and Ash (Moeller) at East Coast has really pushed me as a player to show my skills and what I can do.”
Prosser-Shaw made her senior debut with the Eagles at just 15 years of age and the wing has grown into a key part of the side that this year completed a hat-trick of flags.
She said East Coast has played a key role in her development as she took the challenge of facing senior players head on.
“I’ve been at East Coast for three years and it’s a fabulous culture and environment,” she said.
“I started at 15 and to have the network the club provided has been great, Getting the Rising Star Award last year and how they’ve helped me to develop has been crucial for me.
“Having the support of someone like (coach) Ash has been great, he’s really helped me to grow as a player and a person.
“It was a bit daunting (taking on senior players) but the support of those around me helped me to take that step and have the confidence to do it.”
The AFLW Draft takes place on December 16.
