She might be a cricketer but Maddy Darke has an impressive gymnastic talent for doing things backwards.
The teenage star from Sydney’s eastern suburbs has done the complete opposite of most cricketers when it comes to making international, national and state debuts.
First she made her debut for Australia on a tour to the UK.
Then she played for the first time in the WBBL late the same year.
Now, in early 2020, she finally earned her first cap for NSW.

“It’s kind of funny I guess, the way things have worked out,” said the young talent.
“The NSW debut was against Tasmania and I was pretty pleased with how I kept but I only got one run with the bat which wasn’t ideal, But you have to start somewhere,” she said.
“We did win in the last ball which was good.”
Darke, a wicketkeeper-batter made her debut alongside fellow teen Hannah Darlington in a match which secure NSW a spot in the finals of the WNCL where the Blues were beaten by Western Australia.
Darke made her WBBL debut for the Sydney Sixers debut in October - one of five teens in the Sydney squad.
The Alyssa Healy fan and Easts cricketer has previously played for Australia A during the tour of the UK in July as an injury replacement for Annabelle Sutherland.
“Being part of the WBBL was outstanding,” she said.
“It’s such an energetic competition, so dynamic with the international, the Australians and locals.
“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind but I have enjoyed it massively.’’
