Five lucky footy clubs from across Australia are set to land an ex-AFL talents from a pool of players with a combined 1437 games experience.
The selected clubs will take part in this year’s Carlton Draft – a campaign which sends former big league guns back to community level for a one-off match day experience.
For the first time, the initiative will expand beyond Victoria into New South Wales and Western Australia.
Tom Hawkins, Brett Deledio, Matthew Pavlich, Travis Cloke and Will Schofield will all be eligible to be selected in a special draft night to be held next month.
Over 150 clubs nominated to be involved in this year’s Carlton Draft.
The Victorian clubs selected are Beaufort (Central Highlands league), Hill End Grove Rovers (Mid Gippsland league) and Heathmere (South West league).
Coleambally from the Farrer league will be the first NSW club to be involved.
The Avon Football and Netball Association’s Redbacks Football Netball Club has been picked from Western Australia.
“It was great to have Dyl Buckley join The Carlton Draft team in an official capacity this year after being a part of the playing crop in 2024,” Draft commissioner Jonathan Brown said.
“It’s safe to say he is much better served as a recruiter after his abysmal performance on the field. He has pulled together an unbelievable talent pool of AFL legends.
“The Carlton Draft is all about giving back to the local footy clubs and communities, so for it to be able to expand outside of Victoria and into Western Australia and New South Wales is a huge step forward for the campaign.
“We’ve got some excited clubs who are itching to select their draftee, I can’t wait to see the campaign come to life for another edition.”
Clubs will select player legend during The Carlton Draft night, held on Wednesday, April 30 at The Sporting Globe in Richmond, before the matchdays commence.
