Canterbury Eagles under 14s have shown spirit on and off the rink.
On the team’s grand final day, they trailed 3-1 to Newcastle.
Never giving up, they clawed their way to 3-2 and in the final three minutes of the game, the team incredibly scored four goals bringing the score to 6-3.
Their efforts won them a gold medal in the NSW peewee league championships under 14s.
“For a bunch of 11, 12 and 13-year-olds they’ve had a really good attitude all season,” coach Danny Soo said. “When Newcastle were up by three, they did really well to bounce back and showed resilience, which is rare to see in kids of their age.”
It was a big win for the team — one of their key players was sidelined after a soccer injury a few weeks ago.
Mr Soo said “the team really rallied around him and played really well together.”
“The older players really helped the younger ones out.”
Canterbury Eagles are The Express’ latest nominee for Team Spirit, sponsored by SportsTG. The other categories are Junior Sports Star, sponsored by Rebel, Service to Sport and Young Sporting Spirit, sponsored by Simonds Homes.
This September, anyone who nominates will go into the draw to win 1 of 4 $100 rebel gift cards.
