Australian Little Athletics 2022: NSW stars, standouts and 39 medal winners

NSW athletes gave it their all at the Australian Little Athletics championship and came away with an impressive haul of 39 medals and 25 personal best times. Stars, standouts of the meet.

NSW athletes gave it their all at the Australian Little Athletics championship against youngsters from across Australia and finished the two-day event in Melbourne in third place on the overall teams table.

The host state won this competition with Queensland second and NSW third.

There were some sensational performances across the board and numerous standouts.

NSW GOLD MEDALS AT AUSTRALIAN LITTLE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

One of these was Philippa Quarrell from the Manly Warringah club who has been competing in major events all season with great success.

At the Australian Little Athletics meet this U13 athlete raced off with two of NSW’s 11 gold medals in an impressive display.

Philippa won the 800m TF (2:20.37) and the 1500m (4:48.80).

In the U13 1500m race she lead home a NSW sweep with Eva Gawel and Keira Toohey following her across the line.

Another NSW athlete won two gold medals in Tallara Joseph-Riogi from Canterbury Little Athletics Centre Inc.

She turned heads by collecting a gold medal in the javelin with a PB (37.50) and discus with another PB (38.19).

The third NSW athlete to win multiple gold medals was Greystane’s Adnan Darwich in the U15 multiple class.

He won the 800m (3:43.21) and 200m T final (34.98) and finished third in the shot put (3.49) and long jump (2.17) and second in the 100m (17.21) in a memorable performance in Melbourne..

Matilda Webb from Winston Hills also picked up a gold in the 1500m Race Walk with a new PB (7:06.39) while Balmain’s Irini Kapsalis won the shot put (13.59m).

Our multi-class athletes also had a ripper in Melbourne.

In the U13 Multi Class, Nate Castelli came up trumps in the shot put for his gold (1.95).

The Port Macquarie youngster also claimed a bronze in the discus with a PB (5.96), and silver medals in the long jump (0.89m), 200m Tfinal (1:25.53 PB by 10 seconds) and 100m (36.92 PB).

Lowndes Motler from Werrington was another gold medallist after his victory in the 100m (15.31).

He also finished second in the discus (10.50) long jump (2.84m) and shot put (4.01).

The 11th gold was won by the 4x100 U13 girls relay team in 50.35.

Cameron Badger from Sutherland Little Athletics Centre: 200m – 25.58 (PB) 80m Hurdles – 12.42 (PB 3rd) 400m – 56.36 (PB 2nd)

Cooper Dabin from Wagga Wagga Athletics: Discus: 45.16 (PB 2nd)

Jack Proudford from Hills District: 100m – 12.22 (2nd)

Zak Evans from Northern Suburbs: 200m Hurdles – 28.74s (PB in the heat)

Erin Blayney from Northern Suburbs: 200m Hurdles – 30.06s (PB) 80m Hurdles – 12.92 (PB – 2nd)
