The owner of a popular cafe and bar in Randwick fined $1000 for breaching COVID-19 restrictions says a “miscalculation” led to the venue becoming overcrowded.
Two Ones on Clovelly Rd is among the latest businesses in Sydney to be hit with a $1000 infringement notice by police for failing to comply with public health orders.
Eastern Beaches police were conducting patrols on Saturday night when they noted the Randwick establishment appeared to be over capacity about 6.30pm.
Police issued the owner with a $1000 fine for failing to adhere to a COVID-19 Safety Plan and for taking additional bookings above what was permitted.
Under current COVID-19 restrictions, a venue cannot exceed a ratio of one customer per four square metres of floor space.
Two Ones owner Martin McCleave told the Southern Courier he had a COVID-19 Safety Plan in place but had miscalculated the number of people he could have on the premises.
“It was an error on our part. We made a miscalculation on the number,” he said.
“When I did the plan the number was 35 (people). My calculation was incorrect and it was closer to 24 to 25.”
He said he accepted the fine and had since updated the safety plan.
