Police said emergency services responded to reports a truck was on fire along Templeman Crescent, Hillsdale after it brought down multiple powerlines, sparking the flame.

Officers from the Eastern Beaches Police Area Command have blocked traffic and shut down the area, between Rhodes and Flint St, as Fire and Rescue NSW work to extinguish the blaze.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said one person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

The fire, which broke out on the truck’s trailer, is under control, but still lit.

Firefighters disconnected the trailer and an Ausgrid spokeswoman confirmed the power supply for the effected area has “been isolated”.

“There’s been significant damage to the overhead lines and we will need to go and do repairs once the area is deemed safe,” they said.

“We will investigate the incident once it’s safe.”

It is not yet clear what the contents of the trailer were.

Residents living nearby have remained unaffected.

More to come.
