The Feedbag Maroubra to close, replaced by Neighbourhood Cellars
The rumours are sadly true. The home of the iconic Bra Burger in Maroubra is closing down. But all is not lost according to The Feedbag’s owner.

It’s been there for us through every hangover but Maroubra’s celebrated Bra Burger is soon to be no more.
After six years of providing what is arguably a community service, The Feedbag’s owner Peter Thompson has decided to shut up shop some time in November.
But all is not lost, with Mr Thompson telling the Southern Courier he plans bring back the Bra Burger again one day.
“It’s true, The Feedbag will be closing. I’m looking to re-establish myself eventually in a more family friendly and flexible way,” Mr Thompson said.
“I’m looking to take time off and then do a new concept, but this time with a business partner.
“I’ll pop up again at some point – keep an eye on our Instagram.”
The McKeon Street institution will soon be replaced by eastern suburbs fine wine connoisseurs Neighbourhood Cellars.
Neighbourhood Cellars already has an established presence across the east with stores including Bayswater Fine Wines at Rushcutters Bay, Darlinghurst Fine Wines at Surry Hills, Paddington Fine Wines, Potts Point Providore and The Spot Cellars Randwick.
A development application before Randwick Council to change the use of the store from a cafe to bottle shop say the new Neighbourhood Cellars Maroubra will “complement the other food and beverage operators in the vicinity”.
“Despite the presence of these retailers, it is recognised that this part of Maroubra known as North Beach, once a busy shopping strip, has been in decline for some years,” the application reads.
“Neighbourhood Cellars Maroubra will breathe new life into the neighbourhood and attract fine wine interested consumers from surrounding suburbs and assist in reviving this retail precinct.”
The Bra Burger is a tantalising combination of angus beef, American cheddar, smokey mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and tomato relish.
