Popular eateries across Sydney’s eastern suburbs and southeast have been named and shamed on the NSW Food Authority’s latest list of food safety breaches including two establishments inside a Westfield mall.

The breaches range from poor cleanliness and hygiene practices to failing to take all practicable steps to eradicate pests and failing to keep potentially hazardous food under temperature control.

The NSW Food Authority publishes a name and shame list on its website highlighting businesses which it claims have breached food safety standards.

Ten eateries across the eastern suburbs and southeast Sydney have been fined and added to the list during the past six months, from November 2020 to early April 2021.

The worst-hit suburbs for eateries making the list are Bondi, Bondi Junction and Mascot.

Two eateries inside Westfield Bondi Junction have joined the unenviable list including Sourdough Bakery and Hokka Hokka.

Sourdough Bakery received a whopping $2640 in fines relating to three separate penalties in March which involved failing to keep potentially hazardous food under temperature control as well as poor cleanliness and hygiene practices.

Mascot’s Tandoori Zone also received three fines worth $2640 during the past six months for similar breaches.

Businesses issued with a penalty notice are listed on the name and shame list for 12 months.

NAME AND SHAME LIST (BREACHES IN PAST SIX MONTHS):

Sourdough Bakery and Cafe

Westfield Bondi Junction

Penalties: Fail to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control (previous warnings given); Fail to maintain all fixtures, fittings and equipment to required standard of cleanliness (previous warnings given); Fail to keep near each hand washing facility a supply of soap and single use towels (previous warnings given). Breaches took place in March.

Fine: $2640

Tandoori Zone

Botany Rd, Mascot

Penalties: Fail to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control; Fail to maintain easily accessible hand washing facilities on the food premises; Fail to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness. Breaches took place in January.

Penalties: Fail to not permit live animals in areas where food is being handled; Fail to maintain premises, fixtures, fittings, and equipment in a good state of repair and working order. Breaches took place in March.

Fine: $1760

Penalties: Fail to store food in such a way that it is protected from the likelihood of contamination (previous warnings given); Fail to maintain all fixtures, fittings and equipment to the required standard of cleanliness (previous warnings given). Breaches took place in December.

Fine: $1760

Rocky’s Pizza Place

Bronte Rd, Bondi Junction

Penalties: Fail to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness (previous warnings given); Fail to ensure food contact surfaces of equipment is in a clean and sanitary condition (previous warnings give). Breaches took place in December.

Fine: $880

Hokka Hokka Bondi
