A man who police allege stole women’s underwear from hotel rooms was found with more than 1000 pairs of bras, knickers and swimwear, police say.
Sutan Achmed Daniel Al Hamilton, 37, appeared in court on Monday and told media outside “it’s a stupid fetish and a stupid mistake”.
In October, police started an investigation following reports of a theft at Rydges Hotel Sydney Airport, where a bag of underwear was allegedly stolen from a women’s hotel room including bras, socks and lace undies.
Following inquiries, on November 6 detectives searched Mr Hamilton’s home in Rosebery and allegedly found a large haul of women’s underwear and swimwear including more than 1000 items.
He was arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station.
Police have charged him with two offences relating to the break and enter at the Mascot hotel as well as an earlier incident in January 2018.
Police allege Mr Hamilton also broke into a hotel room at Ibis Sydney World Square in January 2018 and stole multiple items of women’s underwear.
Mr Hamilton told Downing Centre Local Court he had never been before a court before and asked for his matter to be adjourned so he could seek legal advice.
His matter has been adjourned until January 20.
He has been charged with break and enter house (steal value less than $60,000) and break and enter dwelling, house or building commit serious indictable offence.
He is currently on bail. Police inquiries are continuing.
