surfers made the most of rare conditions at Yarra Bay Beach, riding waves that only appear once or twice a year.
Maroubra resident Glenn Duffus snapped these pictures after rough conditions whipped up some huge waves last Monday.
Mr Duffus said locals were quick to grab their boards after seeing waves barrel into the normally flat beach.
“It happens when a big south swell comes through Botany and bounces off the wall where the big port terminals are,” he said.
“The water hits it and comes bouncing back across to the beach.”
Mr Duffus said bodyboarders were usually seen at the beach.
“That day though there were young guys on foam boards, because the water breaks pretty shallow.”
