THE St. Michael’s Golf Club Wildcats have won their way back into the Women’s Metropolitan Pennant first division competition after victory in the division two final.
Despite winning all six matches in the lead up to the final, the all-woman team took nothing for granted when they faced Ryde Parramatta for the flag at Terrey Hills last week.
“We still went through similar preparations, hitting at the range as well as getting our mental awareness right for the day,” lady captain and team manager Pat Pitsawong said.
“The girls just wanted to get out there and get the job done.”
With intermittent rain, the Wildcats found the match more difficult than they expected.
Pamela Tsiamis was the first to win through at 9-7 after 11 holes thanks to a consistent game, before Casey Cook took victory with a 7-6 finish at the twelfth.
Teresa Nurdi and Eleena Kyriacou’s matches were declared halved, leaving it to Stephanie Kyriacou to seal the win.
Stephanie, the 23rd-ranked Australian amateur women’s player, took a 5-4 victory that left the team and their supporters literally jumping for joy at the 14th hole.
Teresa Nurdi and Eleena Kyriacou’s matches were declared halved, and the Wildcats won the flag 4-1.
“I was shocked but relieved that we got it, I am so proud of the girls because they worked so hard in every match,” Ms Pitsawong said.
“We can’t wait until next year, hopefully we’ll be very competitive in whatever division one section we end up in.
“The girls are part of the elite squad so our coach John Serhan will organise for ongoing training throughout the year — hopefully we will still have the same team to play together in 2018.”
