RANDWICK turned on the style in the second half after coach Owen Finegan read them the riot act at half time.

The Wicks went into the break against Gordon with the score 10-10. But Randwick should have been well ahead.

Coach Finegan was furious. “It looks like you don’t want to be there,” he told the team. “If the winger gets tackled, backs need to get to the breakdown … the breakdown is terrible, no physicality … you’re not protecting the halfback … it’s the worst football in a month … the lineout is terrible … you need to rush up in defence … we are being outmuscled.”

While Gordon scored first in the second half there was a marked improvement and the Wicks went on to score four unanswered tries. Alex Hills and Cam Betham, who was unable to train last week due to injury, anchored the scrum while Latu Latunipulu proved a real handful. The final score was 38-24.

Second grade’s performance was sporadic. The boys worked hard to grind out the win, demonstrating a cohesive team performance, aided by the reserves.

The final score was 40-28.

Third grade started slowly and were down 14 points early in the half. A regroup, led by open side flanker Sam Connor, loosehead prop Shane Byrne and halfback Tony Luxford got Randwick back in front at half time. A late charge by Gordon was shut down with desperate defence and strong scrummaging. Randwick won 33-26.

Ben Morgan, Tom Molloy and Jack Harrison starred for fourths in their 26-19 win.
