MAROUBRA gymnast Jaymi Aronowitz has proven to be a top contender in her sport, after finishing third overall on both the vault and beam at the Australian Gymnastics Championships.
Jaymi and fellow NSW Academy of Gymnastics competitors Olivia Wills, Sage Anderson and Jessica Rutherford finished second overall as a team at the event in Melbourne earlier this month, doing their club proud.
The athletes were among 1447 who took part in the championships, vying not only for the national title, but looking to selection for the 2017 World Championships and 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Jaymi’s success follows her nomination last month in the Junior Sports Star individual category for this year’s Local Sports Star awards.
Now 14, Jaymi started at the academy when she was just six years old, after being talent-spotted at a school holidays gymnastics program.
She has since worked her way up to become a level nine artistic gymnast, the second highest in the national stream, and travels from Maroubra to Miranda five days a week for training.
Gymnastics NSW spokeswoman Kait Bastion said Jaymi and all the other NSW gymnasts had proven to be an unstoppable force at the championships.
“The success of our athletes is a testament to the dedication and commitment of NSW’s clubs and coaches,” Ms Bastion said.
