RANDWICK produced one of their finest attacking displays of the season in a scintillating 36-36 draw at Manly.
The home side were first to score but it wasn’t long before halfback Mitchell Short returned the favour.
Winger Christian Yassmin then scored two tries, which gave Randwick a 21-10 lead for most of the half.
A brief lapse in concentration just before the break meant Randwick trailed by three at half time.
Coach Owen Finegan’s message was to “aim up” and that the boys needed a concerted effort to go wide. Randwick started the second half well, with hooker David Vea scoring first, closely followed by a try from No. 8 Sam Croke.
David Vea was then dispatched to the sin bin for a dangerous tackle and with five minutes to go, Randwick led by seven — until Manly converted their final try, bringing the scores to level. Randwick assistant coach Pat Phibbs praised the boys for their “best attack of the season” and making something of every effort in Manly’s 22.
Second grade had patches of brilliance but also lapses in concentration and poor defence. Players of note included outside centre Andy Marks and inside centre Locky Miller, who wowed the crowd with his formidable Aussie Sevens footwork. Final score was 39-28 to Manly.
Thirds were involved in a tight contest with standout performances from No. 8 Finn Wright and flanker Sam Connor. Randwick came out on top 32-30.
Fourth grade won despite a lacklustre display. There were solid performances from flanker Jum Woodhill, prop Billy Finch and winger Sepesa Tarogi in the 14-10 victory.
