The mother of Aussie sensation The Kid Laroi has had fraud allegations dating back to 2018 mentioned in court.
Sloane Howard, 51, is the mother of young pop star The Kid Laroi – full name Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard – and appeared at Downing Centre Local Court today.
She has pleaded not guilty to the charge of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
The charges date back to 2018 in Sydney’s inner west with Howard allegedly using deception to use the credit card details of a John Keith to make a payment of $849 at Laser Clinics Australia at Marrickville Metro shopping centre. Court documents allege Howard used the payment on “cosmetic services”.
Howard resides with her son, 18, in the US, and was represented in court by her lawyer. The Kid Laroi was born and brought up in Waterloo, in Sydney’s south.
Her legal team sought to adjourn the matter for three weeks for balance of briefs to be served, before then setting a hearing date.
The court heard Howard had “contractual obligations” spanning the next six to nine months, accompanying her son on his world tour, and were hesitant to set a hearing date today.
“We’re unsure of where she’ll be and when,” her lawyer said.
The registrar initially told her legal team that “court takes precedence over travel overseas”, but Magistrate Daniel Covington allowed for a two-week adjournment for a balance of briefs to be served, before setting a hearing for a later date.
The matter was adjourned to July 11 for reply.
The allegations were the result of work by police officers from the Inner West Area Command.
In September 2018, officers attached to the command began an investigation into allegedly fraudulent credit card transactions involving Howard.
Nearly four years later Howard was arrested after she attended Day Street police station on May 26, when police executed an outstanding warrant.
Howard has pleaded not guilty and her matter will return in July.
