A Facebook message asking a soon-to-be father about drugs was the undoing that led him to being busted in a dial-a-dealer sting, a court has heard.

Saxon Nash, a 20-year-old carpenter from Maroubra, was convicted of drug supply and dealing with criminal proceeds at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday.

According to agreed facts, about 10:15pm on Saturday September 11 police were parked along Vicar St in Coogee when they saw Nash in the driver’s seat of a car parked near Coogee Bay Hotel.

In the 10 minutes the car was parked there, police saw two women walk up to the window and “exchange items” before walking away.

Police stopped and searched the females, finding and seizing 0.9g of cocaine in a clear resealable bag.

One of the women said she paid $300 for cocaine and her phone showed Facebook messages exchanged with Nash which referenced drugs, the facts state.

A short time later, police stopped Nash and searched his car. They found a wallet in the front door driver’s seat with multiple ID documents belonging to him, along with $300 cash in $50 denominations.

Police found further $200 cash in the front console.

Nash initially told police he’s “not selling” and can “help people get a bag”.

Waverley Local court heard Nash’s partner was due to have a baby in three months.

Magistrate Ross Hudson said the dealing was not sophisticated but there was a degree of planning,.

“He has a bag there, gets a message on Facebook and supplies it,” Magistrate Hudson said.

“At the end of day it’s a very small amount. He has youth on his side and has a drug issue”.

Magistrate Hudson convicted Nash of drug supply and dealing with suspected criminal proceeds.

Nash, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was sentenced to a 12-month community corrections order with a condition of abstaining from drugs.
