Retail and dining precinct will be the heart of Randwick
A new shopping and dining precinct will become the heart of Randwick, developers have said. Plans have been released for the Newmarket development’s shopping parade on the site of the old Inglis stables.
Randwick will soon have a new shopping and dining strip which will become “the heart of the community”.
Cbus Property has released details and artists’ impressions of the planned retail precinct at the centre of its Newmarket Development.
The company claim it will be the “new heart of Randwick” packed with restaurants, cafes, shops and artisan producers.
Designed by award-winning architects Bates Smart and Arcadia Landscape Architecture, the strip will front Barker St and will link the planned 5000sq m Inglis Park.
Initially there will be 1100sq m of retail space with a further 1200sq m of retail leasing space to be added.
Adrian Pozzo, Cbus Property's CEO, said the focus will be on food, family and friends.
He said the ground floor piazza will house casual contemporary dining and coffee shops for the connoisseur.
“This outstanding new neighbourhood will be one that celebrates diversity: through distinct and elegant architecture of its residences, unique outdoor spaces, retail amenities and most importantly, a vibrant community,” he said.
There will be space for more than 20 cafes and restaurants along the precinct which will have water features, plenty of outdoor seatings and plants.
At the entrance to the precinct will be a gold coloured “Newmarket” sign.
Steffan Ippolito, from the partnering Oxford Agency, said the design was about creating a beautiful outdoor dining space which would be a contemporary neighbourhood place for the locals of Randwick.
Mr Pozzo said the precinct will be where Newmarket comes to life. He added that it will “feature an exceptional selection of retailers, well loved providores and eateries who will each share their craft with locals in a refined green space steeped in heritage”.
The Newmarket development is being built on the former Inglis site and will be home to 612 apartments and 30 terraces when finished.
Fig Tree Pocket and Newmarket Residences, the first stage of the Newmarket Randwick master plan, is set for completion in 2020
