Randwick man Simon Brown, 43, was excused from appearing to Downing Centre Central Court on Tuesday, where he’s charged with dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, larceny, disposing of stolen property, and making false statements to a cash dealer.
It is alleged Brown stole $145,000 worth of jewellery from a man and woman in Randwick between September 2021 to February 2024.
According to court documents, the alleged haul consisted of rings, pendants, cufflinks, necklaces, buttons, bracelets and watches both silver and gold.
Brown is accused of taking it to a cash dealer where he lied about being its owner, prompting them to make a false report.
According to court documents, Brown “did make false statements advising he was the owner”, each of which he signed “confirming he was the owner”.
It is further alleged Brown dishonestly obtained $2,566,582.0 through deception, which he transferred to himself from another bank account sometime between October 2021 and August 2023.
