SIGHTS like this may become a thing of the past after Randwick Council voted to crack down on boat trailers being parked in residential streets.

Councillors approved new powers for rangers to impound boat trailers that are parked for more than 28 days.

But rangers will only take action after receiving a complaint and will take into account the impact on the area, safety, condition of the boat trailer and the size and number of others parked nearby.

The Southern Courier counted eight boat trailers parked on Darley Rd, Randwick, next to Centennial Park, on Friday afternoon.

Rangers will have the power to impound trailers but they must give owners 15 days’ notice. The council voted to monitor the implementation of the new powers and report back in 12 months.
