THE further north you live in the Southern Courier area the better your quality of life.

That was the finding of leading consultancy firm PwC in its CityPulse report produced as part of News Corp’s Project Sydney campaign.

The study measured quality of living across three areas: live, work and play. Each were given a mark out of 10 and take into account access to public transport, jobs, quality of housing and nearby entertainment.

Randwick scored highly across the board with 8 out of 10 for living, 7.2 for work and 5.8 for play. The city average is 5.1 for living, 4.8 for work and 4.8 for play.

Coogee and Clovelly also scored highly (7.2/6.9/5.6) as did Kensington (6.4/7.5/7.1).

At the lower end of the scale are Maroubra North (3.6/4.7/3.2), Maroubra South (3.2/4.2/5.2) and Malabar/La Perouse/Chifley (3.8/4.8/5.6).

Top of the pile in our area is Mascot/Eastlakes with 8.3/7.3/7.8.

“There is quite a significant difference in housing type and cost between some of the suburbs, Maroubra and Malabar as compared to Randwick and Coogee,” PwC associate director Stephanie Hall said. “The more southern suburbs also have less accessibility to public transport connections with Malabar, La Perouse — Chifley and Botany experiencing the poorest scores for access to amenities via transport in this region.

Randwick and Coogee have denser and more expensive housing but they are close to beaches and parks.”
