A one-time member of the notorious Marboubra Bra Boys surf gang has been convicted after he was caught with a bag of heroin.
Jackson Travers, of Eastlakes, has previously made headlines for his role in a brutal attack on a stranger outside a Redfern pub after celebrating a big South Sydney Rabbitohs win in September 2019.
He was convicted over the attack the next year and narrowly avoided a custodial sentence.
The 24-year-old and his brother Ray were acquitted in 2019 - months before the Redfern attack - of murdering homeless man Peter Hoffmann, found stabbed to death in his car on June 21, 2017, a State of Origin night.
At Waverley Local Court on Tuesday, Travers, wearing a backwards white cap and a white Calvin Klein jacket, appeared with his lawyer Vincent Cataldi and pleaded guilty to drug possession.
He also entered pleas of not guilty to two charges of contravening an apprehended violence order and driving a motor vehicle while disqualified.
According to police documents tendered to court Travers was discovered with a clear resealable bag containing heroin about 4.10pm on May 5 in Maroubra.
For the drug possession, Travers was convicted and fined $500.
The other charges against Travers will return to court for hearing on May 27, 2024.
