Omar Eid: Maroubra dealer jailed for guns, drug stash

To the outside world he was a loving full-time carer for his mum. But police discovered a different side to the 43-year-old after a raid on his home.

A drug dealer caught with a sawn-off shotgun and a wide range of illegal drugs in his bedroom during a police raid in Maroubra will remain behind bars until after Christmas.

Omar Eid, 43, fronted Waverley Local Court on Thursday and was sentenced to a 10-month prison term.

He had previously pleaded guilty to a dozen charges including supply a prohibited drug (MDMA) and possess shortened firearm without authority.

Eid, who is a full-time carer for his mum, was arrested and taken into custody following a police raid of his Broome St share house in Maroubra on Wednesday, July 29.

The strike force operation – targeting drug supply – netted 16 arrests and the seizure of illegal drugs including ketamine, cocaine and MDMA with multiple search warrants carried out that day.

The agreed facts stated police raided his share house about 6.45am and found seven people inside, all sleeping in separate rooms.

Police spoke to the occupants including Eid and searched each room.

Inside Eid’s room, police found $7850 cash, a Colt pistol and sawn-off shotgun, 26g of MDMA, 5g of cocaine, a small amount of meth, 2.6g of nandrolone, 1g of opium, and a small amount of another chemical.

Fourteen boxes of ammunition and an ammunition belt were also seized by police.

“Both firearms were located in bags along with various ammunition and were not stored in a safe or lawful manner,” the agreed facts stated.

Magistrate Jacqueline Trad convicted him on all charges and sentenced Eid on Thursday to a head sentence of 10 months imprisonment with a non-parole of five months.

He will be eligible for parole on December 28 with his sentence back dated to begin when he was taken into custody in July.

His charges included supply prohibited drug, six counts of possess prohibited drug, deal with proceeds of crime, possess unauthorised firearm, and possess shortened firearm without authority.

Other alleged offenders charged during the Strike Force Caladenia operation remain before the courts.
