Political background:

Member for Heffron since 2012. Was Botany Bay Mayor for 31 years

Top three priorities:

• Infrastructure failures — what is being built is either inappropriate, such as the WestConnex or the Light Rail, which has been terribly mismanaged.

• Overdevelopment — Sydney is suffocating under the Liberals. Property developers are running rampant. We need a planning system that puts people first.

• Public transport — we need more and better public transport, including a metro for Green Square. The Liberals new bus timetable has been a disaster.

CHRIS RYAN

KEEP SYDNEY OPEN

I’m a customer experience professional in my early 30s working in the tech and start up world, I’m a renter who relies on public transport. I have been a part of the community since 2010

Political background:

A member of the community is a customer of the government, but they are also the boss.

Top three priorities:

• Fix the transport issues and make it 24 hours. It is a major bottleneck and it will only get worse with the future plans.

• Improve the cultural atmosphere and ability to establish arts and music venues without the red tape.

• Affordable housing, being a young area of renters, a larger number are going in to financial stress every day.

ALEXANDER ANDRUSKA

LIBERAL PARTY

I grew up in Canberra where I obtained a Bachelor of Commerce, becoming a chartered accountant in 2010. Passionate supporter of Doctors Without Borders.

Political background:

I have been a member of the party for more than six years and have been involved in various local government campaigns.

Top three priorities:

• I will deliver further public school upgrades, wipe out the maintenance backlog and can confirm a major upgrade for Alexandria Park Community School.

• I will be a fighter for small business addressing state taxes.

• I will address public transport concerns, and drive plans to see new heavy rail links and more rapid transport corridors and buses.

KYM CHAPPLE

GREENS

I am a mother, a marathoner and Parkrunner, an activist and a public policy specialist.

Greens candidate for Heffron Kym Chapple

Political background:

I have 15 years’ experience in policy and advocacy with the UN, in the public service and parliament.

Top three priorities:

1. Housing is a human right. We will build 300,000 new social houses to address waiting lists. We will also improve renters rights by removing no fault evictions.

2. Public transport in Heffron is at breaking point. Light rail has been a disaster and private ownership has seen Mascot and Green Square stations at capacity. We need urgent investment in public transport.

3. We need to bring back a vibrant night-life in Sydney with live music and festivals. This means ending the lockouts.

MICHAEL DELLO-IACOVO

ANIMAL JUSTICE PARTY

I’m a scientist with experience in energy production, geoscience and climate science.

Animal Justice Party candidate for Heffron Michael Dello-Iacovo

Political background:

I’m on several AJP committees I’m also the founder and chair of the party’s youth wing.

Top three priorities:

I will protect animals and the environment in ways that mutually benefit people. Reducing deforestation, and improving access to public transport, cycling and clean energy are critical. Our urban planning system has become politicised. Town planning experts should be given control with input from councils and communities. I want to ensure people with companion animals can take them on public transport and aren’t discriminated against when renting.
