MICHAEL DALEY
LABOR
I’ve lived in this area my entire life. I grew up in South Maroubra and was the local paperboy. My wife, Christina and I are raising our kids in Chifley.
Political background
I’ve spent over 23 years standing up for our community, first on Randwick Council where I became the deputy mayor and in 2005 when I took over from Bob Carr as our local MP. I have served in several senior ministerial portfolios.
Top three priorities
• Putting local schools and Prince of Wales Hospital before the Liberals’ $2.2 billion stadium splurge.
• Saving Yarra Bay from the Liberals’ disastrous cruise ship terminal.
• Fixing local bus services that have been decimated by the Liberal Government.
PAT FARMER
LIBERAL PARTY
Pat is a multiple world record holder for endurance running. He moved into the area in 2010 and lives at Maroubra Beach. He is actively involved in the community.
Political background:
The former federal MP spent three years as parliamentary secretary for education, science and training.
Top three priorities:
• Improve the movement of people through modern, safe and comfortable transport. This includes the underground heavy rail link to Malabar and increasing bus services and frequency.
• Protect Botany Bay by stopping further development of greenfield sites in Maroubra.
• Get some of the extra 4600 teachers into Maroubra. Look at options for a new TAFE in Botany.
NOEL D’SOUZA
INDEPENDENT
I have been the pharmacist and a businessman in Matraville for over 35 years looking after thousands of locals and their families. Support the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Love all sport especially cricket lawn bowls and football. Also love education, I have 10 education scholarship at 10 local schools.
Political background:
Randwick City Councillor 2012 to present. Mayor of Randwick from 2015 to 2017.
Top three priorities:
• Stop the mega-cruise ship terminal at Yarra Bay.
• Better bus services for the area — bringing the 309 back to Matraville and return to the old route.
• Better roads and fixing Anzac Parade and Bunnerong Road.
JAMES CRUZ
GREENS
I’m a librarian and union delegate who grew up in public housing and a strong supporter of our public services.
Political background
I’ve spent nine years as a librarian, six working directly for the Maroubra community, helping people on a number of personal and community issues.
Top three priorities
• we’ve committed to building 300,000 social houses across the state and to renovate all of those in Maroubra.
• Save Yarra Bay. Yarra Bay and other natural sites in our area are at serious threat from the Liberal government selling them off to the highest bidder.
• Radical action on climate change. We will work our hardest to prevent dangerous changes to our climate.
ROWAN KOS
KEEP SYDNEY OPEN
Bartender, AV technician, motorcycle courier.
Political background:
I have campaigned for local food consumption in the Manning Valley.
Top three priorities:
• Economy: Resolving the $16 billion annual loss to Sydney’s economy. Sydney’s night time economy requires proper balanced governance and a dedicated ministry to save us from being an ongoing global embarrassment.
• Political corruption: This has been affecting us all and I will fight to deliver our policies which will reform the political system making it more transparent, accountable and fair.
• Invest in music and culture: We propose to tax gaming revenue and support the regrowth of music and culture in NSW. Let’s reclaim public spaces.
CAROLINE SIMONS
AUSTRALIAN CONSERVATIVES
My parents fled oppression and poverty in Myanmar and sacrificed much as migrants to raise me in Australia — for us a land of hope and opportunity. I am a local resident, homeowner and love nothing more than strolling Maroubra’s foreshore. I have eight years of experience in local government.
Political background:
Conservatives activist, committed Christian, union member.
Top three priorities:
• Law and order is the best form of poverty prevention. Women need to feel safe in our community. For crims, it’s jail not bail.
• Retail businesses in our area are doing it tough, high power prices are hurting them too. We love coal.
• Save the Aussie larrikin, end political correctness.
