New strategy creates smarter future for Randwick
Randwick is moving toward a smart technology future after a new strategy was officially approved by the council.
RANDWICK Council is officially moving towards a smarter future.
Councillors last week unanimously endorsed to endorse the Smart City Strategy, following public exhibition.
The strategy focuses on investing in various technology to ensure Randwick is not left behind when it comes to advancements in technology.
Mayor Kathy Neilson said the strategy was an example of the council’s commitment to the future.
“The strategy will provide many more benefits to the community and ensure our city is connected, competitive and creative now and into the future,” Cr Neilson said.
The council wants to install free wi-fi in town centres, charging stations for electric vehicles and digital technology that is able to better detect rips at major beaches.
Free wi-fi is intended to attract new customers and encourage them to stay longer. The plans also include multi-function poles in Coogee Bay Rd, which will provide wi-fi, CCTV and can also be used for lighting, charging stations and environmental sensors.
An implementation strategy will now be created to have the strategy operating within 10 years.
